Description

All the properties at Iken Barns have been converted from a range of former farm buildings (or byres) and now provide a high standard of accommodation. Exposed brickwork and ceiling timbers have been retained to give interest. They are all approached from the central yard but have individual patios and low enclosures. The outlook from the barns is either over farmland towards Tunstall Forest or over the River Alde towards Snape.

Greenacres is a beautifully converted self-catering holiday cottage. All on one level, the barn provides exceptionally spacious and well-equipped accommodation perfect for a couple looking to escape to the country and explore this beautiful part of Suffolk. Shop: 2 miles Pub: 2 miles.

Other properties which are part of Iken Barns include Gardeners Den (sleeps 2), Farriers Cottage (sleeps 3), The Old Mill House (sleeps 3), Estuary Barn (sleeps 4), The Lambings (sleeps 5) and Bay View Barn (sleeps 6).

Iken is a reputed base of Boudica and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded SSSI wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Butolphs Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall.

Reviews

Iken Barns is an excellent location. There is a path at the back of Iken Barns that leads down on to the estuary where there was a beautiful sun set at 9.00 p.m. each evening. It is an ideal area for lots of walking with our little dog.

Mr Peter S,

Fantastic location
