Description

Top Step Cottage is a pretty fisherman's cottage, part of a small unique terrace of similar cottages situated on West Lane steps just off the Aldeburgh High Street. Small but perfectly formed, this cosy cottage offers comfortable accommodation for couples or a small family. Inside the entrance door you are welcomed into a homely sitting room with an air of nautical colour and charm. To the rear of this Aldeburgh cottage is a small kitchen with dining area, with the kitchen having all essential self-catering appliances including a dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom which has a bath and overbath shower is also located on the ground floor with a separate cloakroom. On the first floor are two bedrooms – one with a double bed and plenty of clothes storage and one bedroom has a single bed. This cottage also has the added benefit of a small sunny courtyard area to the rear which is a great little spot for a bit of peace and quiet in the summertime. Top Step Cottage is ideally positioned in the heart of Aldeburgh and handy for visiting the lovely boutiques and restaurants within the centre of the town. Shop: 200 yards Pub: 500 yards.

Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten, who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival, which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends.

Previous Customer,

We appreciated the welcome note and gifts very much. Thank you! There were many aspects we loved about this house; the mattresses were comfy, and the linen very nice, there's plenty of room for clothes storage, and the whole place was clean. The kitchen was well stocked with cutlery crockery and implements, and the washing machine was decent. The bathroom is big (especially for the size of the property) and nicely finished, the shower is excellent, and it's great to have a separate cloakroom. The sitting room is comfy and nicely laid out, and the decor throughout is pleasant. It was also remarkably quiet - we were worried about the proximity of the Fish and Chip shop, and the public stairs immediately outside, but we suffered no noise from that, and seagull noise was not intrusive. Also worth mentioning is that the wi-fi is strong and worked very well.

Mr Andrew N,

An ideal spot despite steps to manage. All that we could need was here. One of our favourite bits of Suffolk Coast which we have known all our lives...!
